Congratulations to Chorus Students!

Congratulations to the students who participated in the 5th District Honor Chorus Performance. These students rehearsed all day Friday and performed Saturday afternoon at Roswell United Methodist Church. The recording they made was beautiful! We are very proud of their good work. The students involved were Glen Fletcher Tatum, Matthew Gavilanez, Kendall Geisel, Madison Hablas, Josie Hinshaw, Roxana Hojjatie, Luke Ladbrook, Averie Lico, Noah Wagar, and Neal Wagner.

Congratulations to four NMS Chorus students who successfully auditioned for the GMEA All State Chorus. They will have another round of auditions in January but are well on their way to singing in Savannah. The students are Samantha Barnes, Sarah Gould, Madison Hablas, and Noah Wagar. Way to go! This is a very competitive audition with literally thousands trying for the coveted honor.

Two singers from Northwestern were selected to perform with the ACDA Regional Honor Chorus in Winston Salem, NC. Madison Hablas and Noah Wagar are the students who received this honor.

Several students participated in the Milton High School Chorus production of Les Miserables November 18 and 19. They guest appeared as small children in the production. Brynn Wilson, Emma Canedo, Madison Hablas, Josie Hinshaw, Sam Wilder, and Cole Mantas did a fabulous job! NMS was proud to be represented in the fine production.

The Rock a thon was a huge success. THANK YOU!!!!

Concert Time!

The Northwestern Middle School Chorus will perform their fall concert at Milton High School in the school auditorium on Wednesday, October 12. The performance begins at 7:00 PM. Sixth grade students have been asked to report to the stage area at 6:15 to warm up. Seventh and Eighth grade students should report to their assigned seats in the auditorium at 6:30.

As the students assemble in the auditorium, parents are asked to wait in the foyer of the auditorium. General seating will be open at 6:50. There is no charge for the performance and it is open to the public.

I know the students are anxious about their outfits. The formal wear company promises delivery Monday. It is always a scramble to get everyone outfitted for the first concert. Let's hope everything arrives as promises!!

I know you will enjoy hearing the students this fall. They have really progressed in a short 8 weeks. I continue to be amazed at the talent in the group and the skills they are acquiring!

Rock a thon 2011!!

This Friday evening, September 23, the NMS Performing Arts groups will host the annual Northwestern Middle School Rockathon. This is an important fundraiser for the performing groups. All money pledged to the chorus goes directly to the chorus. The chorus uses these contributions for transportation, choral music, musical costs, and incidental expenses. All contributions are welcome!

Check out the picture from last year of Mrs. Busman receiving a pie. It was the highlight of her year!

Please check out the NMS Chorus Handbook. Scroll down on right side...

What a great first week we have had at NMS! Students are settling into a routine and are curious about the many opportunities available in chorus. Please check out the pages on the right side of the blog for these performance opportunities.

Students should read the handbook and complete the final two pages to return to Mrs. Busman. This gives you permission to have your picture posted on the blog!

Welcome to another year of singing at Northwestern Middle School! It is always exciting to return to school and see the new faces and the returning students that make up the over 200 singers involved in choral music at NMS. I would encourage you to take the time to look over the calendar and handbook for upcoming choral events this year.

Our first event will be the singing of the Star Spangled Banner at Milton High School on Friday, September 9. What a great way to participate in what has become a tradition at Milton. Singing the Star Spangled Banner is also a nationally recognized event with music educators across the country encouraging students to learn and perform the National Anthem.

I look forward to welcoming new and returning students this week at NMS. Remember to stop by the chorus room to say hello!
