Sept. 9 Star Spangled Banner at Milton

Oh, say can you see. . . .”

Dear Students and Parents,
On Friday, September 9, the chorus students of Elkins Pointe, Hopewell Middle School, and Northwestern Middle School will join with the Milton High School Chorus and Band to perform “The Star Spangled Banner” at the Milton Eagles football game.  This is an event we hope you will make plans to attend.  The Music Educators National Conference has been one of the sponsoring groups for a campaign to raise awareness in students and citizens about our heritage, the National Anthem, and patriotic traditions.  We began our tradition several years ago by singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” with the Milton Band in the observance of this campaign initiative.  The National Anthem Project, which was announced in Baltimore, Maryland on September 10th, 2004, was launched in spring, 2005.  We would like for our students to be part of this ongoing campaign and hope that you will support this endeavor by joining us on September 9th at Milton HS.
For the game, students should wear nice blue jeans (no shorts), red, white, or blue shirt or NMS Chorus shirt, and sneakers.

The schedule for our event will be as follows:
5:15 – Students report to Milton HS Cafeteria for pizza
6:15 – Students are in position/grouped on Milton HS porch for warm-up
6:30 - Rehearse with the band
6:50 – Begin the procession to the field
7:10 – Move onto the field/Sing the National Anthem
7:30 – Students going home meet parents at the circular drive (by the front
           porch) at Milton High School.
Students attending game meet parents on the front porch of Milton HS.

With many students participating from four schools, we will need parent supervision and assistance in many ways.  We also want to make sure that the students are picked up in person so that we do not have students unsupervised at the football game.  The high school does not allow middle school students to attend football games without a parent. Please respond with the attached permission form by Tuesday, September 6.  We look forward to seeing you at this special event.

Sincerely,
Mary Busman, Northwestern Middle School
